Ultimately BJP declared Rajrani Rawat as its candidate from Barabanki Lok Sabha constituency. With this, the political activities in the district became more intense. Current MP Upendra Singh Rawat will not be in the fray this time. By giving ticket to Rajrani, BJP has shown the participation of women in politics.
In the previous list of BJP, sitting MP Upendra Singh Rawat was made the candidate. But after an obscene video went viral the very next day of the announcement, he himself announced that he would not contest the elections until he was proven innocent. After this, the Central Working Committee of BJP was to declare the candidate for Barabanki. After a long wait of about 20 days, BJP announced the name of Rajrani Rawat.
Rajrani’s political history is about 29 years old. With the support of BJP, Rajrani Rawat had contested the election of District Panchayat member from Nindura I in the year 1995 and won with a huge vote. In the year 1996, she contested elections from Fatehpur assembly constituency on BJP ticket but lost the election to SP’s Hardev Rawat by only 509 votes. After this, in the year 2000, he again contested the election of District Panchayat member and won. In the year 2002, she contested the assembly elections on BJP ticket and became MLA for the first time.
In 2021 also, BJP had made Rajrani the candidate for the post of District Panchayat President just two days before the nomination. Rajrani had defeated Neha Anand of SP. Discussion was going on for the past few days regarding BJP ticket. But in the end the equations changed and three names emerged. Rajarani’s name was included in these. The mobile phones of BJP leaders remained busy till late Sunday evening. Rajrani kept receiving congratulations on social media also.
